How Often Should You Get an Oil Change for Your Genesis?

If you want your Genesis to have a long life, then you will want to schedule routine maintenance at your Genesis dealer to keep up with your vehicle’s recommended service schedule. The service schedule is designed to prevent major mechanical issues with your engine and other critical vehicle components. One of the most important routine maintenance tasks is an oil change.

Typically, the frequency of your oil service will depend on the type of oil in your Genesis. If your vehicle uses conventional motor oil, you may need to have service as often as every 3,000 to 5,000 miles, which can be every three months depending on your driving frequency. For vehicles that use synthetic motor oil, service should be done every 7,500 miles or every six months, whichever comes first.

Even if you use synthetic oil, your driving style can influence your service frequency. For example, towing, driving on dusty roads, off-road driving, sporty driving, stop-and-go traffic, and other activities that stress the engine can cause motor oil to break down more quickly. Likewise, even if you don’t drive your vehicle frequently, you will still need to change your oil every six months since stagnant oil can also be harmful to the engine.

Can You Check Your Engine Oil at Home?

As a car owner, there are several at-home tasks you should do to maintain your vehicle, such as cleaning your car or checking the air pressure in your tires once a month. You can also check the condition of your motor oil at home to assess whether you need to schedule service sooner than your recommended service schedule.

To check your motor oil at home, all you need to do is remove the dipstick from the oil reservoir on your engine. Once removed, you should wipe the dipstick on a clean cloth to assess the appearance of the oil. If your engine oil is dark, then you likely need new oil. You should also note if the engine oil is lower than usual, since this can mean a potential oil leak in the engine.

What Happens During Oil Service at Your Genesis Dealer?

Oil service is generally one of the fastest maintenance tasks your vehicle needs. During your service, a mechanic will check your oil levels, drain old oil, change your oil filter, and then replace the oil. It’s also common for other parts of your vehicle to be checked during your oil service, such as your tires, brakes, and battery.

Changing the oil in your engine is a basic element of routine maintenance for your vehicle. To assess whether you need oil service, you can check your odometer, verify how long it’s been since your last service, or check your motor oil yourself.
